PehlaPanna, Education Desk : Innovation is the key to opening the path for startups, and moving toward self-employment is essential. Students must be encouraged to think out-of-the-box during their school education and be allowed to experiment with new ideas.
 
For this, teachers themselves need to stay updated and learn new skills.

These views were expressed by Dr. Elangovan Kariyappan, Assistant Director of the Innovation Cell at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
 
A two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship began at PIET, organized jointly by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, Department of School Education &amp; Literacy, and AICTE.&nbsp;
 
The workshop is being held for District Education Officers and members of District Institutes of Education &amp; Training (DIET).

Dr. Kariyappan said that developing an innovative mindset among students will strengthen the spirit of entrepreneurship. If their thinking and perspective are transformed, schools can become powerful centres of future innovation.&nbsp;
 
All participants also received training at PIET’s Incubation Centre.

M.Y. Madhukar Borkar, Regional Coordinator of the Innovation Cell, said the purpose of the workshop is to empower education officials in line with the spirit of the National Education Policy 2020, so they can enhance their skills in innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.&nbsp;
 
The bootcamp is being held with the support of the Wadhwani Foundation. Neelam Saxena and Geeta Sanjay from the Wadhwani Group briefed participants on school education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.&nbsp;
 
Progress Comes from Innovation&nbsp;
 
PIET Director Dr. Shakti Kumar said that progress is only possible through innovation, and India is moving forward in this direction. Secretary Suresh Tayal, Vice Chairman Rakesh Tayal, Board Member Shubham Tayal, Dean Dr. B.B. Sharma, and Nodal Centre Coordinator Dr. Shakti Arora highlighted that innovation and entrepreneurship are two sides of the same coin – development is impossible without both
